Tennyson, In Memoriam (section I), read by Benjamin Hagen

Text of section I here.

A heartbreaking and heartbroken lyric that looks to grief as a way to sustain a feeling (?) that seems vulnerable to the passing “Hours.” Is it possible for love to wear away? Is the “long result” of “love” a double loss, a loss not only of the loved one but also of the loving one’s lovingness?

(“‘Behold the man that loved and lost, / But all he was is overworn.’”)
